How to Get a Yonkers Police Blotter Report
The Yonkers PD offers a few ways to get police reports. The method depends on your relationship to the case and how old the report is. Open cases and cases pending with the DA or court cannot be released.
If you are on the report, you can pick it up in person at the Records Section. Bring valid photo ID such as a driver's license, state ID, passport, military ID, or alien registration card. You must be listed on the report itself. No one can pick up your report on your behalf unless they have a notarized letter from you and their own valid ID.
To send a mail request for a non-accident report, include:
- A copy of your government-issued photo ID
- A $2 non-refundable search fee (check or money order)
- A self-addressed stamped envelope
- The incident number, date, location, and type of incident
Mail to: Yonkers Police Department, Records Unit, 104 South Broadway, Yonkers, NY 10701. Most non-accident reports are ready within 8 business days of the incident date. Attorneys who need a report must provide a letter of authorization from the client. If authorization is not available, a FOIL request is required instead.
Accident reports from 2010 forward are not available at the Records Section. They must be retrieved through CrashDocs.org. Reports are available 8 to 10 business days after the incident. There may be a fee through the third-party provider. If both parties exchange information at the scene and no damage over the threshold occurred, no written report is generated at all.
FOIL Requests for Yonkers Police Records
The Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) is New York's public records access law. It covers most government records, including police records, subject to certain exemptions. In Yonkers, FOIL requests for police records go to the Records Section at 104 South Broadway.
Under New York Public Officers Law Article 6, agencies must respond within five business days. They can grant the request, deny it with written reasons, or send an acknowledgment with an estimated date. If your request is denied, you have 30 days to appeal. The appeal goes to the agency's designated appeal officer. They have 10 business days to respond to your appeal.
Standard copy fees are $0.25 per page. Electronic records provided by email are typically free unless gathering them takes more than two hours of staff time. Some records are exempt from release. These include records related to open investigations, records that would identify confidential sources, and sealed records. Sealed court records require a court order; the FOIL process cannot override a seal.

Types of Police Blotter Records in Yonkers
The Yonkers PD Records Section handles several different types of records. Each has its own rules for access and fees.
Incident reports cover crimes, calls for service, and non-accident events. They go to the person listed on the report. Open or active cases cannot be released. Records go back to 1980 under 8 NYCRR Section 185.5(b). Records from 1980 to 1986 were destroyed per NYS Archives Schedule MU-1. Reports prior to 1996 require the police incident number. Reports prior to 2011 cannot be looked up by name alone.
Archive requests for older reports require a Request for Archived Reports form. There is a $5 non-refundable, non-transferable search fee per report. If the report is found, an additional $15 fee applies. You need the exact date, time, and location to find older records.
Accident reports from 2010 forward are only on CrashDocs.org. Pre-2010 accident reports may be available through the Records Section with the proper request. The law requires you to exchange information at the scene for minor property damage incidents, but a report may still be filed if injuries occurred or damage exceeded the threshold.
Certificates of Conduct are local record checks for the City of Yonkers only. They do not reflect statewide criminal history. Applications are accepted Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 2 PM. Processing takes 5 to 7 business days. You must apply in person and pick up in person. Completed certificates are held for 60 days. The fee is $30 for residents with proof of residency, or $60 for non-residents. Accepted payment: cash, bank check, or money order.
Fingerprinting is by appointment only. Call (914) 377-7232 to schedule. The fee is $50 for residents and $75 for non-residents. The Records Unit does not submit your fingerprints to other agencies. You are responsible for submitting the cards to whichever agency requires them. Fingerprint cards are available for $1 each.
Subpoenas must be "So Ordered" by a judge. Fees depend on the court: Family Court subpoenas cost $15, Supreme Court subpoenas cost $15, and federal court subpoenas cost $25. Checks should be payable to "City of Yonkers Police Department."
